Creative Process: Finding Inspiration
If you've ever been in a creative rut, you know how hard it is to work through it until you eventually work your way out. But how do we even begin to work our way out? Just keep going. Try all those little tips about changing things up and trying something new, but most importantly, find some inspiration. Easier said than done, I know. If you've exhausted your usual resources it may be time to try somewhere new.
+ Go Window Shopping
Crate & Barrel, Target (home section), Anthropology,
+ Go Local
+ Go Local
Try a local boutique or coffee shop. Local shops do not have to meet style requirements set by their corporate offices. They can have a bit of freedom when they decorate. Some like to hang art by local artists, so if you are travelling this would be a great way to get a feel of the culture. Here in DFW, I love the interior of Fourteen Eighteen in Plano.
+ Instagram Suggestions
I spend a lot of time on Instagram, its my go to source of inspiration. Search hastags to find specific items. If you really love SoAndSo's instagram feed, see who they follow and meet SuchAndSuch. Its a great way feel part of a community.
+ Go to a Gallery
+ Take a Class
+ Finish an Old Project

Just finishing something can feel refreshing.
+ Talk to Someone New, or for my fellow introverts, listen to a new podcast.
I listened to all the episodes from a podcaster I liked, so I found a show they were a guest on. It was like the podcaster was giving a recommendation of other shows I may like.

+ Go to a Festival or Event
I know this is tricky, since we can't just decide that our city will have a major event today. Plan ahead and try to go to something at least once a year. I just went to the Dallas Quilt Show and really liked a few things there. At the end of this post, you can find a few of my favorites. I'm planning on creating a page to share pictures and I'll have an album for the show.

Hope this helps. Where do you go for inspiration? Do you have a go-to source?
Dallas Quilt Show
Here are a few of my favorite quilts from the Dallas Quilt Show.
One for the Guys, by Charlotte Fowler. Quilted by Joan McGee
Warm Wishes Quilt by Candy Hargrove, free from Andover Fabrics, download here.
There were a few Amish With A Twist II quilts. Pattern by Nancy Rink.
Dot Collin's art quilt was super cute. I would like to have one based on van Gogh's Sunflowers. Pattern by Sue Spargo
Tuning Fork #22 by Heather Pregger, was my favorite. These colors were so perfectly chosen and placed. My camera does not do it justice.
More pictures from the Dallas show will be later.
